deepweld

Deep-tech driven inclusive and socially-aware circular material joining & welding

About

In an era where sustainability and technological advancements are shaping industries, DEEPWELD emerges as a transformative project dedicated to circular material welding (CMW) through deep-tech innovations. The project is designed to address the challenges of modern welding practices by incorporating AI-powered automation, robotics, and human-machine interaction tools into education and professional training.

With an increasing focus on environmentally responsible production, industries such as automotive, construction, and manufacturing are moving toward circular economy models that emphasize recycling and reusing materials. However, using recycled metals and advanced materials in high-precision welding applications presents significant challenges, including material integrity, safety, and performance reliability. DEEPWELD is committed to solving these challenges by equipping the workforce with cutting-edge skills, technologies, and methodologies to ensure high-quality, sustainable welding practices.

Strengthen the Circular Economy & Sustainable Welding Practices

DEEPWELD’s Approach:

Incorporate advanced material testing and AI-driven defect detection into welding education.

Train professionals on best practices for welding with recycled metals without compromising safety.

Promote eco-friendly welding innovations to align with EU sustainability policies.

Collaborate with industry leaders, universities, and policymakers to drive adoption of sustainable welding methods.

Objectives

DEEPWELD is designed to achieve tangible, long-term impacts on the welding industry, vocational education, and sustainable manufacturing. The project is driven by three core objectives that address technological, educational, and social challenges in circular material welding.

Project Focus and Training Approach

DEEPWELD is structured around an inclusive, innovative, and technology-driven training program aimed at both learners and trainers in vocational education (VET), higher education institutions (HEI), and the industry workforce. The project will introduce a comprehensive training toolkit that includes:

  • AI-driven quality control methods for welding recycled and advanced materials.
  • Automated robotic welding systems to enhance precision and efficiency.
  • Assistive technologies for enabling inclusivity in welding and supporting workers with disabilities.
  • Entrepreneurial and digital skills training, ensuring professionals can adapt to evolving industry trends.
  • Micro-credential certification through the Europass Digital Credential Platform, making skills widely recognized across Europe.

DEEPWELD will integrate these technologies into a structured curriculum, available through both synchronous (live) training and asynchronous (self-paced) learning modules. The training framework will align with European quality standards (ECTS, ECVET, EQAVET) to facilitate international recognition and scalability across multiple educational institutions and industries.

Powered by

EIT Deep Tech Talent Initiative

DEEPWELD is part of the EIT Deep Tech Talent Initiative (DTTI), a pan-European effort dedicated to training one million deep-tech professionals by 2025.

Through this initiative, DEEPWELD aligns with EU policy goals on sustainable industrial growth, ensuring that Europe remains a leader in high-tech manufacturing.

By embedding deep-tech methodologies into traditional welding education, DEEPWELD actively contributes to the future of sustainable manufacturing and green technology integration.
